The Dalhousie Tigers Varsity Women’s Hockey team has a long history of involvement in the community and Friday night the team will continue its support of the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation.

With defending champion St. FX in town, the Tigers will don their pinks jerseys to join the battle against Breast Cancer. Last year’s event at the Dalhousie Memorial Arena saw the team raise over $500, with a boisterous crowd of over 300 supporters.

Captain Liz Matheson believes that everyone can do their part, “Being on a varsity team is a big time commitment.  While our team would like to have more time to volunteer and help out in the community, it is sometimes hard to achieve.”

“Hosting a game in support of the  Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation breast cancer game allows us to raise both money and awareness for an amazing organization, while still competing in the sport we love to play.”

This year they hope to top that, offering an auction during the game that includes donations from the Dalhousie Bookstore, Tim Hortons and Adidas, while the Women’s Basketball team will also be at the game selling T-Shirts.

Continuing this tradition is something that First-Year Head Coach Sean Fraser is glad to be a part of, seeing the importance off the ice. “Fridays game’s is not only a very important game in the standings but its a great opportunity for our team to give back.

“Last seasons game was a huge success both on the ice as well in the stands. We hope to build on the success of last years event and generate more awareness for a great cause,” continued Fraser.

The puck drops at 7pm Friday at the Dalhousie Memorial Arena.
